Dental Cleaning & Exam FAQs

Here you can find answers to our most commonly asked questions. If you have any further questions or can’t find the answer you’re looking for, please contact us and we’ll make sure you get the information you need to make a confident decision about your dental health!

How often should I get a cleaning?

We recommend it every 6 months. Cleanings remove built-up plaque and keep your oral health optimal. Depending on your individual needs your dentist may recommend more frequent visits. Consistency with cleanings means a healthy smile and no oral health problems.

Can cleanings prevent gum disease?

Yes, cleanings are one of the best ways to prevent gum disease. Cleanings remove built-up plaque and bacteria that can cause inflammation and periodontal disease. By staying on top of your cleanings you’re being proactive about your gum health. Combine that with proper brushing and flossing and you’re maintaining your gum health.

Will cleaning make my teeth whiter?

While cleaning isn’t the same as teeth whitening it will remove surface stains from food and drinks. This will leave your teeth looking brighter and feeling fresher. For more significant whitening, ask about our cosmetic dentistry options at your next visit. Cleanings are still an important part of keeping your smile bright.

Do cleanings hurt?

Most cleanings are pain-free but some patients with sensitive teeth or gums may feel a little discomfort. Our team will take extra care to make sure you’re comfortable during the process. Let us know if you’re nervous and we’ll adjust our approach to suit your needs. Cleanings are worth it for the health benefits alone.

What happens during an exam?

An exam includes a thorough examination of your teeth and gums. Your dentist will check for tooth decay, gum disease, and any oral health issues. You’ll also get an oral cancer screening so we can detect any potential problems early. This assessment allows us to create a personalized plan for you.
