Fluoride Treatment FAQs

Here you can find answers to our most commonly asked questions. If you have any further questions or can’t find the answer you’re looking for, please contact us and we’ll make sure you get the information you need to make a confident decision about your dental health!

Can I get fluoride from toothpaste and mouthwash alone?

While fluoride toothpaste and mouthwash are important for daily oral care, professional treatment provides a concentrated dose of fluoride for extra protection. They’re especially good for high-risk patients.

What’s involved in fluoride treatment?

Fluoride treatment is quick and painless. A gel, foam, or varnish is applied to your teeth and it takes only a few minutes to set. You’ll be asked to not eat or drink for 30 minutes after to let the fluoride absorb.

How often should I get fluoride treatment?

It depends on your oral health needs. Many patients get fluoride treatment every 6 months during their regular dental visits. We’ll assess your situation and recommend the best schedule for you.

Who can benefit from fluoride treatment?

Fluoride treatment is good for everyone but especially for children, adults with high cavity risk and those with weakened enamel. If you’ve had a history of tooth decay or gum disease fluoride can provide extra protection.

Is fluoride safe?

Yes, professional fluoride treatment is safe when done by a dentist. Fluoride is a natural mineral found in water and toothpaste. Too much fluoride can be bad but our treatment uses safe amounts to protect your teeth.
